today, i was 30 mins late for my 9.30am exam.
a 15 min drive from clayton to caulfield took an hour and 10 mins
all because of some guy falling off a train platform and getting his arm run over and amputated by the train.
this of course disrupted the entire train service between huntingdale and somewhere i couldnt hear on the news cause i was way way way way way too stressed on the way cause it was past 15 min lock out time and we were only halfway. all i heard was that a guy had lost his arm after being run over by a train. i didnt even hear that it happened within the hour.
so disrupted train service meant everyone wanted to drive and take buses so roads were jammed packed with cars and stops were overflowing with ppl who tried to cram themselves into any train-replacement service bus that arrived at whichever stop
to quote my friend "there were so many ppl forcing their way up the bus that they ended up breaking the back door" and "the chief invigilator was sitting next to me and being all dramatic going 'i dont think im ever gonna make it' 'the traffic is insane' etc etc"
when we finally got to the suburb b4 caulfield, it was 9.45am so trent decided it was best to call the uni to ask them to put us through to our unit coordinator.
so we called and told them we were stuck in uncharacteristically heavy traffic. seemed like they got tons of calls b4 that cause the first thing the lady on the phone said was "yeah, thats because of the trains. when u get there just find the chief invigilator and tell them u were delayed by the trains n u should get the full time to complete ur exam".
u cannot imagine how relieved i was when i heard that. seriously.
finally got to the race course a couple of mins b4 10am...had at least 20 other ppl rushing to park and run to their seats at the same time as us.
went upstairs, didnt even have to tell the invigilators there why we were late...just got led to our seats n got told they started the exam 15 mins later than usual and that they were still in reading time but we get an extra 10 mins at the end.
the lady who led me to my seat asked if i needed a glass of water. and the guy that led trent to his seat was trying to calm him down telling him not to worry and all that. lol
luckily we didnt need that extra 10 mins. pretty much everyone who sat that paper finished in under an hour :)
so yes. that was the interesting start to my day.
